Beamont students wow judges with food business pitch in ‘Dragons’ Den’

A TEAM of entrepreneurs from Beamont Collegiate Academy have wowed judges in a Dragons’ Den-style challenge. Fifteen pupils from the Long Lane academy travelled to the Cottons Hotel and Spa in Knutsford alongside students from 10 other schools across Cheshire as part of the Manufacturing Institute’s Make It Challenge. The two teams from Beamont were tasked with building a food business from scratch and then pitching their idea to a panel of experts in the style of the BBC show. The all-female team from the school was awarded first place and is now preparing for the grand final of the competition in March.

Beamont Students ‘Make it’ a success!

Beamont Collegiate Academy is already recognised as one of the UK’s leading STEM schools and is the only school to hold the prestigious STEM Assured status.

Recently 15 students were invited down to Knutsford to compete against ten other schools from across Cheshire in the ‘Make It’ challenge run by The Manufacturing Institute.

They were presented with the challenge of building a food business, fully, from scratch, then presenting their results at the end of the day in a ‘Dragons Den’ style pitch to three hungry dragons.

The message of the day was that manufacturing and engineering isn’t a Victorian work house or working down the pit anymore, it’s advanced technology, high end visualisations and digital prototyping to bring products to the market faster than ever before with higher quality for the customers.

The two teams delivered excellent projects and dealt with the difficult Dragons questions with ease. Showing that they could express their ideas as well as devise complex solutions to difficult projects.

After a tough day the judges had made their decision and they were blown away with the quality of the BCA pitch. The all-girls team had put together a great idea and kept within budget but most crucially had thought about how each of their roles in the team were vital to overall success.

The success shows the depth of Engineering, manufacturing and accountancy skills across the curriculum at BCA and the girls are now getting ready for the Big Final at Old Trafford in March.

Good Luck Girls!
