On Saturday, 9th May Mr Norbury and Mrs Stamp took a group of twelve key stage 3 pupils to Manchester to take part in ‘World Scratch Day’ an event hosted at the Manchester Football Museum by Code club.
This was a fantastic opportunity for pupils from Beamont Collegiate Academy to submerse themselves in a range of coding experiences delivered through two workshops. Pupils formed two teams; Year 7 and 8 pupils began the morning learning how to code in Sonic Pi. They were challenged to code the Match of the Day theme tune while year 9 pupils developed their coding skills in Scratch as they were given the challenge of coding a football game. The teams later swapped sessions.
The pupils were left with a real thirst to learn more with pupils asking ‘when will we be organising another coding trip at the weekend!’
If you would like to try out coding for yourself you can join us at the Warrington Coderdojo, here at Beamont Collegiate Academy. The next Coderdojo will be on Saturday 23rd May, starting at 10.00am.
