What is the aim of our Maths Curriculum?
We want all students to be proficient in mathematics and to dispel the myth that some students cannot do maths. We follow a curriculum designed to take students through a learning journey in small steps, guided by instructional teaching. This ensures that students feel successful at each stage of their learning, which develops confidence in their own ability, whilst ensuring understanding to a greater depth.
Individual units are sequenced so that learning is built upon each lesson, to reinforce the idea that learning is cumulative. The curriculum is sequenced so that when topics are revisited, time is allowed to recap previously taught content before building on this prior knowledge.
Our aim is for students to be fluent with mathematics, through frequent practice of increasingly complex problems over time. We want students to be able to recall skills and knowledge quickly and accurately and use these skills to problem solve and reason mathematically.
