Design & Technology Curriculum Intent
Our KS3 curriculum allows students to experience all aspects of Design and Technology outlined within the National Curriculum. At KS4 we deliver a range of different vocational courses with a view to continue to develop and offer both traditional and new courses.
The curriculum supports students emotional, creative and intellectual development in a variety of ways:
Our KS3 Curriculum within DT provides a clear foundation for our KS4 DT options, enabling students to continue their journey into post sixteen opportunities, such as apprenticeships and college courses. We aim to provide and equip all students with the following life skills:
Our Design and Technology curriculum has been designed firstly, to be enjoyable, offering a range of different subjects/material areas to explore, complete with activities that motivate our students. Tasks and outcomes are differentiated for SEND students and our facilities/equipment is continually reviewed and developed to keep up to date with both current and emerging technologies.
Our curriculum promotes student’s resilience in a range of activities which allow them to take independent responsibility for their projects, equipment, and their own actions. Respect is promoted in all lessons, encouraging students to respect themselves, each other and the world around them.
Our KS3/4 subjects allow students to take with them a wide variety of life skills into adulthood from cooking skills to a range of manufacturing techniques and problem-solving skills. KS4 subjects under the DT umbrella offer many career paths to the students who study them, involving specific industrial sectors and a variety of higher education career paths.
